Because my ole' buddy ole' pal
baleheadbabe complained that I hadn't written in a long time, I told her to give me a pairing and an object and I woudl right something for right now! So I did and here it is. Now it's not my best but I like it non the less. And blame Phantom for the lyrics, the song came up on my Ipod while I was brainstorming and I couldn't help myself.
Memorial
There isn't much I haven't shared
With you along the road
And through it all there'd always be
Tomorrow's episode
He’d spent most of the afternoon wandering the empty house, the feeling that it felt even more empty then before slowly sinking in as he came across familiar rooms and objects. All seeped in their own memories, memories of him and their interrupted love. But he’d been able to keep himself together as he wandered, until he came upon a dark room in the corner of the large mansion. Everything in it was covered in dust as if no one had been in there in ages.
Suddenly that isn't true
There's another avenue
Beckoning, the great divide
Ask no questions, take no side
“What are you doing in here?” Remus turned to look over his shoulder from his position on the piano bench and smiled when he saw a nonchalant Sirius leaning in the doorway.
“Well you told me to make myself at home while I stayed for the summer, so I thought I’d explore.” Then he turned back to the instrument before him, running his hand admiringly over the black and ivory keys. “This grand is beautiful. Would anyone mind if I played it?”
Sirius smirked in response at the precious expression on Remus’ face, a mix of curiosity, amazement and need. “Not at all Remus…”
Who's to say who's right or wrong
Whose course is braver run
Will ever be, as one
Moving cautiously, he moved into the room, not wanting to turn on a light, yet trying to be careful. He first felt the bench with his foot and with a few quick swipes of his hand, relieved it of its coat of dust. Guiding himself with the same hand, he lowered himself down onto the bench and reaching out with both hands, felt the details of the closed grand piano.
What is done has been done for the best
Though the mist in my eyes might suggest
Just a little confusion about what I'll lose
But if I started over I know I would choose
After fiddling a bit with the keys as in warm up, which included a few scales, Remus cracked his knuckles and launched into a lovely melody, Mozart drifting up through the air of the room.
Silently so as not to disturb his friend, Sirius walked slowly into the room, hands buried in his pockets. He stopped slightly diagonally from Remus, so he could watch his friend’s face.
Remus had his eyes closed as he played, his own soul going into his fingers to pour out the beautiful music. A small contented smile hung on his lips, enjoying the feeling of just releasing himself into the music.
Sirius sighed softly, reveling in the contentment he felt rolling off his friend. He knew there wasn’t much in Remus’ life that made him truly happy, and if an old piano could give it, Sirius wasn’t about to take that away, even if the old instrument had been an instrument of torture in his childhood instead of one of art.
The same joy the same sadness each step of the way
That fought me and taught me that friends never say
Never say goodbye
Never say goodbye
The lid took a bit of tugging but with a sudden bang that broke the heavy silence, the keys were revealed from their hiding place. He could only look at them for a few moment, bringing up the memory of how they felt. Then they had been warm and inviting. But as he slowly placed his hands down to trace the obsidian and ivory, they were cold as ice, as the dead. Shuttering, he quickly withdrew his hand and snapped the lid shut again.
Suddenly that isn't true
There's another avenue
Beckoning, the great divide
I would choose
Remus’ eyes opened when a companion melody joined in his and he looked over to see Sirius sitting next to him on the bench. His friend’s handsome face was twisted in concentration as if he was trying to dig something front the back of his mind. But in a few moments, he was playing as effortlessly as Remus, which caused his smile to become brighter.
Once Sirius had the hang of it again, he glanced at Remus out of the corner of his eyes and when he saw his friend watching him, he just blushed bashfully. He wasn’t one to get embarrassed easily, but this was a side of himself he had never revealed to anyone, much less the Marauders.
After a few more minutes of just the two of them playing, their combined melody filling the room, Remus stopped and just watched Sirius. As odd as it was, his often gruff and carefree friend looked natural behind the keys of the piano. Sirius’ features almost softened as he allowed himself to fall into the music and he had an almost wistful look in his eyes. It was…well it was beautiful.
Now it was Siruis’ turn to notice he was playing solo and glanced over to see Remus looking at with an almost enthralled gaze. As much as he had hated them, those years of piano lessons were worth that look on Remus’ face. After sitting in quiet for a few moments, Sirius looked bashfully back at the keys, his black bangs falling in his face as he picked out a small melody with one hand. “What?”
Remus realized he’d been staring and blushed as well. “You…you’re a natural.” He saw Sirius’ features begin to harden again and after his heart skipped a beat, Remus took Sirius’ chin in his hand and before he could hide behind his tough boy mask again, Remus kissed him softly, with Mozart still hanging in the air around them.
Sirius only smiled and dropped the mask completely.
The same joy the same sadness each step of the way
That fought me and taught me that friends never say
Never say goodbye
Never say goodbye
Minutes passed, or was it hours? He didn’t know how long he sat in the dark and silence as he gazed at the piano, where they had first kissed and on which they had first made love. Finally, he forcibly made himself rise and just as carefully as he had entered, made his way back to the lit hallway, not looking back in the room that he knew he would never be able to visit again. Though the dust quickly settled where he had been sitting, a few wet speckles on the top of the grand remained dust free, the only memorial left of what had happened there.

Date: 2005-03-17 03:38 am (UTC)I'm *really* glad you liked it. It just kind of flowed once I heard that song. In fact it almost made me cry the first time I heard it after copying it to Phantom.
And you will always be the brillant Tulio to my poor clueless Miguel. And While we're being sappy, I want to tell you again of how proud I am of you being in London, even if I do miss you like crazy!
