Public Service Annoucement
Oct. 23rd, 2008 10:53 pmOkay so, I've seen alot of people talking about the Ponystaz game, so I feel I have to make a public service announcement about it. Now, bare in mind, I'm not saying you shouldn't play it, but I just wanted to get this out there.
Ponystarz is ripped off of another game that has been around longer called Ponyisland.net.
Basically what happened is this. The creators of Ponyisland wanted to make a site like Neopets and used My Little Ponys as their inspiration. Naturally when they advertised in the community, much of the MLP fandom flocked over and joined, myself included. When they started getting bigger, they began to upgrade it, which included the graphics of the ponys. For this the commissioned one of the fandoms most popular artists, LunaCat.
While I was still a member, someone totally ripped off the site. Most of their images were just edited ones from PonyIsland, which in my opinion is a form of art theft. The owners of PI tried to get the website shut down, but I left before it was resolved, since I didn't have time for it anymore.
A week or two ago, someone linked me to Ponystarz. I went to look and sure enough, the same pirated images from the rip off site are the ones used on PS. So I went back to PI to see what was going on. Apparently, the owners of PS bought the ripe off site and improved it, but still kept alot of the pirated material. I was unclear about what the owners of PI are doing about the matter, but I didn't want to wade through the message boards to find out more. (EDIT: I just went back to PI to look again and found that the owners have made a public statement about it.)
Basically, the issue I have with it is the art theft. I'd consider joining if they change the images because PI costs money and now has a whole adoptable art sub culture that ruins the game for me.
Again, I'm not saying don't join it and have fun. This is just the reason I won't and feel others should know. Knowing my love of MLP, people keep sending me the link XD
